Egypt’s Mufti Meets with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister to Discuss Mutual Cooperation in Combating Extremism
His Eminence Dr. Shawki Allam, Egypt’s Grand Mufti and President of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, met with Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry, to discuss enhancing cooperation between Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta and Sri Lanka, particularly in the areas of training Muftis and combating extremist ideologies.
Dr. Allam emphasized the deep historical ties between Egypt and Sri Lanka, especially in the religious domain. He highlighted Dar Al-Ifta’s initiatives in countering extremism, including the establishment of Salam Center for Extremism and Islamophobia Studies and the launch of "Fatwa Pro" application, which provides moderate Islamic legal opinions worldwide, with a special focus on Muslims living as minorities.
Minister Sabry expressed his gratitude and underscored Sri Lanka's interest in leveraging Dar Al-Ifta’s expertise by sending Sri Lankan scholars for training. The meeting concluded with both leaders performing the Friday prayer at Cairo’s iconic Muhammad Ali Mosque.
