A Call to Protect Houses of Worship
Dr. Ibrahim Negm, Secretary-General of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide, participated in the United Nations Global Conference on the Protection of Religious Sites in Lisbon. He underscored that safeguarding places of worship is a shared religious and humanitarian responsibility that demands international collaboration to combat attacks, particularly in Gaza and Jerusalem. Highlighting the escalating threats to Al-Aqsa Mosque, he called for unified religious and diplomatic efforts to protect it. Dr. Negm commended Egypt’s exemplary model in protecting churches as a testament to peaceful coexistence and emphasized the critical role of moderate fatwas in denouncing such assaults and fostering interfaith solidarity. He concluded by advocating for global cooperation to preserve sacred sites, which are essential to ensuring community harmony and upholding global peace.
