My daughter wears makeup when she goes out. Is it permissible?
Question
My daughter applies little makeup. She is 16 and she hit puberty. I gave her advice about not wearing makeup but she wouldn't listen. Am I still responsible for her and will I have sins because she applies makeup?
Answer
You and your daughter are not blameworthy so long as she abides by light little makeup. The evidence on this is the words of Allah the Almighty, "…and not display their charms beyond what [it is acceptable] to reveal (face and hands)." (surah al-Nur, 31). Since it is permissible for a Muslim woman to revel her face and hands, therefore, it is permissible to wear Kuhl for example or a ring as part of her apparent adornment.
